Hilary Swank, Steve McQueen, Joe Morton among celebs heading to White House for student film fest

Student filmmakers — and a couple of Oscar winners — are White House-bound today.

Among the pros invited to today’s student film festival to help inspire the very filmmakers who might be their bosses someday (Hollywood’s brutal that way) include actress Hilary Swank, “12 Years a Slave” director Steve McQueen, Joe Morton (best known currently for his role as Bad Daddy Pope on ABC’s “Scandal“), actor and former White House adviser Kal Penn, actor Terrence J, Amber Riley of “Glee,” and Michael Ealy from the “Barbershop” franchise and “Think Like a Man Too.”

President Obama is screening 15 short films made by aspiring young filmmakers chosen from 1,500 entries, and announcing a youth initiative from the American Film Institute and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. The film biz vets will be offering advice and mentoring — and, maybe if they’re smart, watching their backs.
