She’s taken on transgendered teens and female boxers, so it only seems fitting that 34-year-old actress Hilary Swank bust the gender barrier again on the silver screen – this time as legendary aviatrix Amelia Earhart, in the upcoming movie Amelia.
The movie, directed by The Namesake director Mira Nair, is expected to be released Oct. 23, and also stars Richard Gere as Earhart’s husband, George Putnam, and Ewan McGregor as her lover Gene Vidal.
The real-life Amelia Earhart was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic, and garnered even more fame when she and navigator Fred Noonan disappeared in the South Pacific while attempting to fly around the world.
