Hilary Swank: I can be funny too!

Hilary Swank has revealed she would love to act in more comedy roles.
The two-time Oscar winner is known for her dramatic parts and stars in new Hammer thriller The Resident with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Sir Christopher Lee, but she insists she can be funny too.

Hilary said: “I remember working with Richard LaGravenese on two films back to back and he said to me, ‘You’re one of the funniest people I know and I wouldn’t have guessed that.’

“Of course, that’s only natural. I do it too. If I think of an actor and he or she is in comedies I think that they’re funny and don’t think of them as something else. That’s only human. We compartmentalise, that’s how we work through the world.

“I understand why people, when they think of me, might think of drama. That’s what I’m well known for, but it doesn’t bother me at all. I love doing drama, and it’s just nice to be known for something! I feel blessed to have had the opportunities that I’ve had.”

But the Million Dollar Baby star will next be appearing in a romantic comedy, the sequel to Valentine’s Day.

She said: “I’m doing New Year’s Eve with Garry Marshall, which is a bit like the movie Valentine’s Day, funnily enough. There are lots of little vignettes with different people and I start in a couple of weeks. I’m really excited about it.

“I’m doing my prep now; it’s a really fun character and there’s no weight to gain or weight to lose. She’s a fun girl.”

:: The Resident is in cinemas now.
